5 Best Tablets on the Market

When many people think of computer tablets, they automatically think of iPads, the first popular tablet (and still a significant trendsetter in the market). However, if you are scouting for a reliable tablet, there are plenty of options. Some you probably know, like the iPad, but others may be brand new — and just right for your budget and needs. Check out these five best tablets on the market for 2020.

5. Microsoft Surface

Microsoft Surface is a series of touch-screen tablets that compete with iPads on many different fronts. The Microsoft Surface Pros have many of the same functionalities as iPad Pros, though they use various software programs. Microsoft Surface tablets also have dual functionality as laptop computers. What does this mean for you? It means that they are the best of both worlds: they have the portability of a tablet with the dependability and functionality of a laptop. One drawback is that many apps may not be compatible with the operating system.

4. Chromebook Tablet

If you are shopping for an inexpensive tablet that can get the job done without any bells and whistles attached, you may want to look at Chromebook tablets. They are a version of the popular Chromebook laptops, which offer a computer’s functionality at an affordable price point. Chromebook tablets are compatible with Google-based apps, with the drawback of not having much memory – usually 32GB or less – on the hard drive.

3. Amazon Fire

Amazon Fire tablets are not for everyone, but if you are keen on streaming instant videos from Amazon, you may be interested in an Amazon Fire. Be aware that these tablets push Amazon products and services and don’t have much functionality outside of them. They are super cheap, though, usually around $150 to $200, depending on the model. A kid’s version of the Amazon Fire can be a good option for monitoring the content that your children watch.

2. Samsung Galaxy

Have you ever heard of the Samsung Galaxy? It is one of the best reliable names in tablets, and these high-functioning gadgets come in at a higher price point. Nevertheless, they have features to make them worth the extra dollars, including the ability to connect to monitors (including smart TVs) and other hardware, such as a keyboard, mouse, and trackpad. As an Android, it is compatible with many apps on Google Play, and you can get as much memory as you want, depending on how much you are willing to pay.

1. And, of course, iPads

There are plenty of alternatives to iPads, but some people do want an iPad when considering getting a tablet. Different iPads have different functionalities and come in at various price points. An iPad Pro can meet the needs of creatives, especially those who need video and audio editing or creating visual art. iPad minis are relatively inexpensive options that can allow you to access the apps that you want and save information, including pictures. Moreover, there are plenty of versions in-between, such as the iPad Air (a lightweight version) and the standard iPad, which gets a new upgrade every year. Be aware that Apple will intentionally make these products obsolete after a few years, so you will need to upgrade continually.

Find the Best Cell Phones for Seniors

Many seniors now own a cell phone, with over half in that age group owning smartphones. Surprisingly, seniors use their cellphones for tasks or hobbies beyond what you might think.

They can watch their favorite TV show and receive pictures from their loved ones. While some may like the features that come with higher-end smartphones, others prefer simple phones with minimal features.  Check out the list below to find the best cell phones for seniors.

GreatCall’s Jitterbug Flip

If you are a senior or are purchasing a phone for a loved one, the Jitterbug Flip is a simple phone at a low price.  One ideal feature of this phone is excellent speakers. Seniors can turn them all the way up for louder sound. Another popular element among seniors involves a phone’s battery life.

They may struggle to remember to charge it every day. The Jitterbug Flip offers up to 10 hours on a continuous call. The phone is equipped with an emergency help button that seniors can use if they find themselves in trouble. This feature helps give them and their loved ones peace of mind.

Nokia 3310

A straightforward, simple phone, the Nokia 3310 is an excellent cell phone without a smartphone’s complexity. Seniors will have the option to choose from a red, yellow, dark blue, or gray phone. It is a durable phone option that is built to withstand a drop or two.

Although there is a lack of smartphone features, there is still a built-in camera to take basic photos. For those who have difficulty reading, the phone has big buttons and a simple interface. If you are like my grandmother, who enjoys going for long walks, there is also a headphone jack to listen to music with earbuds.

Moto G7 Play by Motorola

While some seniors prefer a simple phone, others enjoy some more complex smartphone capabilities. The Moto G7 Play provides a balance as not to overwhelm the user. This phone is a prepaid option that allows users to pay based on how much the phone is used instead of a set monthly fee. The screen is extremely clear easy-to-read.

It is helpful for seniors who have trouble reading small print and the volume is loud. Additionally, the voice quality is extremely clear and easy for seniors who are hard of hearing to understand those on the other end of the phone.

iPad Mini

While the iPad Mini is technically a tablet, people can still use it as a cell phone. Seniors can stream audio from the iPad to compatible hearing aids. The bright, larger-than-life display offers clear reading. The iPad Mini is ideal for seniors who also want to share photos and videos with friends and family.

Not only can they receive the latest moments from their children and grandchildren, but they can also take and send their own with the incorporated camera. The 10 hours of battery life let the user make calls, video chat, and surf the web. The iPad Mini would be an ideal option for the senior who is technologically inclined.

The bright and easy-to-read display makes it an excellent choice for seniors who may struggle with the modern, tiny phone screens. The software focuses on big words in clear fonts rather than unique fonts. The battery life can last up to 12 hours, so it is excellent for those that may forget to plug it in every day. The phone comes with apps such as phone, text, camera, and internet that are easy to navigate.

LG Exalt

One of the most basic phones, the LG Exalt flip phone, is an excellent choice for those who are hard of hearing. Users can enable high-resolution sound with a high-fidelity speaker and high-definition voice. The flip phone is sturdy and has large buttons. That makes it easier for seniors to navigate the functions. Also included are basic features such as a calculator, alarm clock, and a timer.

For seniors that want to text but struggle with pressing buttons, the LG Exalt features a text-to-speech function. This incredible feature also can read incoming text messages for someone who is having trouble reading the screen.

The leading smartphone producers had to postpone their newest offerings owing to the pandemic. If you are eagerly looking forward to upgrading your existing phone, then check out the hottest smartphones of 2021.

Apple iPhone 12 Mini & 12 Pro Max

The iPhone 12 Mini is similar to the iPhone 12 in terms of features; however, it is smaller and costs $100 less. Alternatively, the 12 Pro Max is a top-of-the-line smartphone, equipped with a superlative camera lineup and a comprehensive UI. Several iPhone fans may not warm up because the latest iPhone does not come with a power adaptor or headphones.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20FE

If the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is already here, can the Galaxy Note 20FE be far behind? The smartphone market is abuzz with rumors that the Samsung Note 20FE will roll out before 2021 is over.

Customers made a beeline for the OnePlus Nord N10 5G phone starting in November 2020. The Nord N10 will share many of the original Nord’s features like 5G connectivity, quad-cameras, and 90Hz high refresh rate display. However, the USP of the Nord N10 is that it costs less than its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy S21/S30

As always, Samsung has a spectacular lineup of ultra-premium, midrange, and budget phones slated for releasing all through 2021. First on Samsung’s plan is the Galaxy S21/S30 series that may be unveiled in the chaebol’s Unpacked event in February 2021. The commercial launch will most probably take place sometime in March 2021.

The S21/30 Series will graduate to the Snapdragon 875 processor and might sport a refurbished design. 5G support will be a standardized across-the-board feature, 108MP cameras, and a possible upgrade to 65W wired charging.

Xiaomi Mi 11

The venerated Mi 11 from the Xiaomi stable will first launch in China, followed by a Q1 2021 release in Europe. It’s widely speculated that the Mi 11 will come with the Snapdragon 875 chipset, feature an upgrade to quad-HD display, and have a 5500mAh battery facilitating 100W wired charging. As usual, the next-gen Moto G models will have more significant and more powerful batteries, better cameras, and cheap yet efficient processors. The more expensive models will have 5G compatibility.

Huawei P50

After making waves with the Mate 40 Series, Huawei is gearing up to release the P5Series sometime in March 2021. Huawei will most likely announce a set of three phones-P50 Pro Plus, P50 Pro, and P50-with higher prices. The P50 phones, like the Mate 40 devices, will have Kirin 9000 processor underneath their hoods.

For the first time, the Huawei P50s will make the most of 120Hz panels and integrate some of the camera features of Mate 40s.

Oppo Find X3

With the kind of attention Oppo is lavishing on the Find X, it is rumored that the range may soon become the flagship line replacing the Reno models. The Find X3 series that’ll see a launch sometime in March 2021 is expected to stand out because of its charging specs, display, camera, and heavy-duty Snapdragon 875 chipset.

Google Pixel 5a

Google’s Pixel ‘a’ smartphones by and large precedes the launch of premium flagship models and tends to be pocket friendly. People don’t know very much about the individual features of the imminent ‘5a.’ However, you can take 5G support, improved processor, and 90Hz refresh rate for granted. Expect the Pixel’ 5a’ to be up for sale by March or April 2021.

OnePlus Nord 2

The upcoming midrange Nord phone is expected to take advantage of 65W fast charging and feature a display refresh rate of 120Hz. This gadget will be highly sought-after because it will run on Android 11 OS and feature a new intuitive processor. The new offering might be commercially released for sale, possibly in the second half of 2021.

New BlackBerry Phone

Yes, BlackBerry might make a comeback in 2021in a new avatar. Onward Mobility, the US-based company that has teamed up with BlackBerry for the project, reports that the device will have a physical keypad and support a 5G network. Another critical aspect that BlackBerry buffs should keep in mind that the incarnated smartphone will be Android-based.

Apple iPhone 13

Diehard iPhone consumers will need to be patient as the 13th edition will launch sometime in fall 2021. Apple typically will come up with four variants. All of them feature a bran-new A15 Bionic processor.

It’s rumored that the display refresh rate will leap to 120Hz, and storage will increase to 1TB while the notch might be smaller. Additionally, the rumor mills have it that Apple’s banking on MagSafe wireless charging means the iPhone 13 will become port-less.

Apple iPhone SE Plus – H2

People predicted that Apple would come out with a Plus variant when the tech giant launched the iPhone SE in April 2020. However, Apple may not come out with the Plus model before July 2021. Besides being more extensive than its predecessor (may sport a 6.1″ or 5.5″ screen), the iPhone SE Plus may also feature a built-in Touch ID.

Apple AirPods vs. AirPods Pro: Is It Worth Upgrading To The Newer Wireless Earbuds?

Are you debating between the Apple AirPods and the AirPods Pro? Tech leader Apple is continually looking for ways to upgrade features and make things more convenient than ever for consumers. Because this technology is always changing and improving, it can be challenging to decide which product to buy. Apple went wireless when it comes to headphones. Do you know the differences between these two options?

It’s essential to understand the features so you can decide which one will get you the most for your money. By comparing the highlights of the original Apple AirPods and AirPods Pro true wireless earbuds, you can better understand which option is the right choice for your needs.

Similarities

Shutterstock

A couple of features have not changed from the original AirPods to the introduction of the AirPods Pro. Both products are truly wireless and have about 3.5 hours of battery life after a charge and over 24 hours if you are using the battery case. Not much difference can be found between the two in regards to sound quality either. But if you’re still undecided about whether or not to upgrade to the newer AirPods Pro wireless earbuds, there are several other differences to take into consideration.

Price Difference

Shutterstock

The price point is the most significant difference between the two products. Apple AirPods don’t have all the upgraded features that the AirPods Pro have, but they are going to be friendlier to your wallet. The original AirPods cost around $159 and include a case. The AirPods Pro are more costly at about $249. That’s a decent jump in price, so taking a look at what each product has to offer can help make your decision a little easier.

Upgraded Features

Shutterstock

Yes, the AirPods Pro version does cost more, but you’re also getting several upgrades with that price tag. One feature of the AirPods Pro that the original Apple AirPods do not have is being resistant to water. Specifically, they are sweat and moisture resistant, a great selling point, and a good advantage for those who regularly exercise using AirPods. Another feature that the AirPods Pro have that the original AirPods do not is noise cancellation. Moreover, Apple took it a step further using active noise cancellation, as opposed to the Apple AirPods that only have noise reduction to the extent that you snugly fit them in your ear, which blocks out some level of unwanted sound.

The Fit

Shutterstock

Do you want a few more reasons why the upgrade is so expensive? The fit is a significant advantage over the original Apple AirPods. This more recent version also offers more options for a custom fit specifically to your ears. Another upgrade that was made with the AirPods Pro is a pressure valve feature. Slight pressure buildup can occur when wearing earbuds, and it can be uncomfortable for some people. If you have a sensitivity to this, and the fact that not all earbud products offer this, the AirPods Pro could be the right choice.

While both of the Apple products are truly wireless earbuds, with very similar sound quality, the AirPods Pro specialties are worth considering in deciding whether or not to upgrade. Ease of use, an enhanced level of comfort, and added customization options make an excellent case for upgrading to the Apple AirPods Pro.

All You Need To Know About The New iPhone 12

If you like to stay on top of the latest smartphone technologies, you have been waiting for the Apple iPhone 12 for months. Because of the ongoing pandemic, its anticipated release was postponed. However, the notorious tech company is finally ready to launch this new series. The iPhone 12 series has four different devices, including the 12, the 12 Mini, the 12 Pro, and the 12 Pro Max. The standard 12 and the 12 Pro are available for sale starting Oct. 23. The Apple iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max won’t be available until Nov. 13. But is it the best smartphone on the market? We discussed why it may or may not be.

Apple 12 and 5G

Shutterstock

All of the phones in the Apple 12 series come equipped with the 5G support, meaning you are connected to the fastest wireless internet network available.

You’ll get quicker downloads, faster uploads, and improved connections. However, these improvements will appear over time as more phone carriers branch out their networks. Speeds also still depend on location as well as carriers.

What’s Different

Shutterstock

Some immediate differences users will notice is the lack of a charging cable. Why? Because the company is moving toward a wireless charging station. Apple feels not including them will help shift the company toward a better environmental plan because of concerns regarding minerals required to build chargers. iPhone 12 users still will receive a USB-C cable cord to connect to other devices. However, there is no base to plug into an electrical socket.

You will also have to shell out extra for headphones — AirPods, to be specific. Like previous iPhones, there is still no headphone jack. This element was phased out like the cable cord, but many analysts predicted these features’ end.

Price

Shutterstock

The standard iPhone 12 costs $799, but if you want a mini, you can shave off a cool hundred dollars. The iPhone Apple 12 Mini is around $699. The Pro, which has better picture quality and capability, costs $999. Naturally, the most advanced version in the series, the 12 Pro Max, is the most expensive, retailing for $1,099.

The Future is Here

Shutterstock

The unveiling of the new Apple iPhone 12 took place on Oct. 13, 2020. As Apple CO Tim Cook unveiled the new iPhone, he explained the upgrade as ideal for the new generation. During the virtual event, he said, “Every decade, there’s a new generation of technology that provides a step change in what we can do with our iPhones.”

There are five different colors you can choose from for the iPhone 12 and the Mini, which are black, white, blue, red, or green. If you haven’t purchased a smartphone in recent years, will you upgrade your device to one of these new sizes at a lower cost?

Apple Watch 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy Watch 3: Which Smartwatch Should You Buy?

Apple products have long since had many competitors try to match or one-up their products. The latest of these rivalries is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 compared to the Apple Watch Series 5.

With several different important feature categories to cover with these two products, let’s get right to it. Check out which smartwatch you should buy below.

Price Comparison

Shutterstock

One of the first things to consider and compare is the price of these two smartwatches. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 comes in at a very competitive base price of $399 just like the Apple Watch 5. The Galaxy Watch base price will get you a 41mm model in stainless steel finish, while the Apple Watch base price will get you a smaller 40mm model in aluminum finish.

You will need to upgrade and pay more to get a larger mm size and other finish options. Another price variance to consider is LTE connectivity, as this will affect your smartwatch’s usability with or without using your smartphone. LTE connectivity will cost an extra $50 for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 to work without your smartphone, while Apple charges $100 for independent use of the smartwatch.

Battery Life

Shutterstock

Another essential feature to think about is battery life. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is still a clear winner in this category, even though they reduced the battery life from a four-day to a two-day period. Simultaneously, the Apple Watch Series 5 comes in at a slightly disappointing 18-hour time span between charges. That will mean having to remember to charge your Apple smartwatch every single night.

Other Tech Features

Shutterstock

The Apple Watch Series 5 does not disappoint with an extensive 16 GB memory for music as well as a large library of pre-recorded workouts for health and fitness-minded consumers. Apple has long since been the forerunner in offering fitness tracking tools and health monitoring features. Samsung keeps up in this category as well, with both smartwatches offering sleep-tracking and ECG sensors.

Rounding out comparisons for these smartwatches are the differences in display features. Both smartwatches offer an always-on display feature that lets you always see the time. Whether it is day or night, indoors or out, you will always be able to read and use either one of these smartwatch brands in any environment. At 360 x 360, the screen resolution on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 comes in lower than the Apple Watch screen resolution of 448 x 368, albeit with a barely noticeable difference.

While Apple has continued to impress year after year, Samsung is attempting to surmount the smartwatch category with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. Even tried and true Apple product fans would be smart to give the new Galaxy Watch 3 a second look. You might be presently surprised by this Android competitor.

Either way, having a high-tech smartwatch can help keep your day – and night – on track. With just a flick of your wrist, you have the whole world at your fingertips. Perhaps the ultimate decision comes down to your favorite shape: circle or square? The choice is up to you.

iPhone SE vs. iPhone 11: Which Is Better?

Tech giant Apple expects the budget-conscious customer to go for the brand-new iPhone SE, which is as versatile as the standard iPhone 11. Both iPhone 11 and iPhone SE use the state-of-the-art iOS UI, and the same proprietary A13 bionic mobile chip powers the smartphone models. So if you have had a unique experience exploiting the features of the top-of-the-line iPhone 11, there’s absolutely no reason why you may not take to the iPhone SE.

However, the iPhone 11 enjoys a distinct edge over the iPhone SE in terms of display size, resolution, camera, and various other specs. No wonder the iPhone 11 costs $300 more than the latest budget-friendly smartphone from the Apple stable. There are crucial differences between these two iPhone models that will enable you to decide which smartphone would be more suitable for you.

The iPhone 11 Has Astonishing Cameras:

Shutterstock

The iPhone 11 features two 12MP back cameras, one having a wide lens and the other extra-wide lens having a 120° FOV (field of view). Both the rear cameras come with practical features like 2x optical zoom, Night Mode, up to 5x digital zoom, improved focusing, depth control, portrait mode, and Smart HDR. The front selfie camera has been upgraded with intelligent HDR, Memoji and Animoji compatibility, 12MP, and portrait mode functionalities.

In sharp contrast, the iPhone SE sports a 7MP selfie camera with portraiture mode. There is only one 12MP single-lens camera at the back with depth control (for adjusting background blurriness), up to 5x digital zoom, portrait mode, and Smart HDR.

The fact that the iPhone 11 sports an extra 12MP camera at the backside tips the scales in its favor compared to iPhone SE.

The iPhone 11 Comes With A More Powerful Battery:

The iPhone SE allegedly has a 1821mAh battery, the same battery that the iPhone 8 carries. Users and mobile phone reviewers are yet to give their feedback on the battery life of the SE; it seems to be standard. Alternatively, the iPhone 11 is equipped with a more powerful 3110mAh battery because of its bigger size.

Since the iPhone 11 has a larger display and a better resolution than iPhone SE, it naturally needs a more performance-oriented battery.

The iPhone 11 Has Slightly Better Memory Than iPhone SE:

That the iPhone SE comes embedded with the same A13 Bionic mobile chip and runs on similar iOS13 software puts it on an even keel with the iPhone 11. You can expect the SE to perform as effectively as the iPhone 11 and also stay functional for years to come. Nevertheless, all apps you open will continue to be active in the background in the iPhone 11, thanks to its 4GB RAM compared to SE’s 3GB RAM.

The iPhone SE might also take a tad longer time to open an app you have not used recently due to its lesser memory capability.

The iPhone 11 Wins In Terms of Display Size and Resolution:

The iPhone 11 has a somewhat larger display, and a higher resolution than the iPhone SE translates into an enhanced user experience. Though both smartphones have the same pixel density (326ppi), you’ll still feel the qualitative difference owing to the iPhone featuring an LCD liquid Retina HD display.

The iPhone 11’s Avant-Garde Design Versus iPhone SE’s Classic Looks:

If you’re the old-school type, you might prefer the iPhone SE’s classic bezel design. The iPhone 11 resembles the iPhone X in terms of looks with a narrower and sleeker bezel. The iPhone 11 is also resistant to water up to a depth of 2m for half an hour. How? Because of its IP68 water resistivity feature.

By contrast, the SE integrated with IP67 can resist water up to a depth of 1.5m for 30 minutes maximum.

The iPhone SE Is More Affordable:

You end up paying $699.00 for the iPhone 11 (64GB) model, whereas iPhone SE (64GB) costs $399.00. Therefore if you’re willing to overlook the iPhone 11’s better features (in terms of camera, memory, and battery life), opting for the iPhone SE makes practical sense.

Getting To Know The Galaxy S20 5G

So you’re thinking about getting the new Samsung Galaxy S20 as your phone. You want to unlock access to the similarly new 5G cell phone networks being deployed in America recently. All of this new technology can be tough to wrap your head around, with each generation of technology’s new collection of jargon and buzzwords. When it comes to shopping for new gadgets, the decisions you have to make are a lot simpler than they may appear at first glance. Keep reading to learn more about the Samsung Series 5G network and its capabilities.

Who’s Ahead in the Game?

Shutterstock

Earlier this year, Sprint and T-Mobile partially paused 5G rollout as they worked on a merger that would allow them to benefit from improved access to specific technologies mutually. Samsung had not completed the work needed to make its low-end vanilla Galaxy S20 compatible with Verizon’s millimeter wave-based 5G network. Now, however, both those things have finished, and so when it comes to 5G, the only decision to make when purchasing your Galaxy S20 line phone is which company’s network will suit your needs and desires.

The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, and Galaxy S20 Ultra should all give the same 5G coverage from whatever network you decide to use.

5G Wavelengths With Phone Carriers

Shutterstock

AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are the big providers when it comes to 5G. The key differences between the three major companies providing 5G in America come down to the consequences of radio wavelengths they are using for the 5G technology. Those can essentially be split into three categories: low-band, mid-band, and millimeter wave or mmWave. The higher the band used, the higher the potential speeds, but the worse the coverage area and building penetration.

Verizon is committed to using millimeter waves, and so is only available in 36 cities currently. AT&T has a millimeter wave deployed in 35 US cities. However, in addition to that, they use low-band and mid-band, allowing their nationwide coverage map to show 5G availability in most of the densely populated areas of the continental US. T-Mobile focuses on low- and mid-band. The phone carrier claims nationwide 5G coverage, which isn’t entirely accurate according to the coverage map but does appear to provide 5G access to a significantly wider audience than AT&T.

4G LTE vs. 5G

Shutterstock

There might be a significant degree of marketing hype adding to the 5G appeal right now because, in practice, low-band and mid-band 5G tends to offer only marginal improvements over 4G LTE speeds. In some cases, 4G LTE was faster than 5G in the same location! Millimeter wave is the only one of the three bands that can offer faster speeds 5G promises to deliver; however, mmWave has difficulty filtering through barriers or other physical obstructions. In turn, these quicker speeds are hard to achieve in practice. Although low-band and mid-band have an easier time getting through walls, even these seem to need ideal conditions to offer more than a slight improvement over the old 4G.

One could argue that current technologies aren’t even “true” 5G necessarily. Authentic 5G is dependent on a combination of millimeter wave and lower band signals working together. That does mean, though, that the 5G speeds we see right now will increase over time, as phone carriers get closer to fully recognizing the technology.
